Stop Searching

Too often, it seems, that people are looking for resources that are located elsewhere. It’s as though, collectively, there’s a mindset being adopted that God is going to lead you to something so that you will be ill-equipped to carry it out. I don’t believe that’s true. In fact, it’s reaching a counter-character conclusion. Yes, we’re truly not equipped to successfully do anything on our own (nor is He expecting us to). However, because we have the privilege of knowing that it is Christ who strengthens us, we also have the privilege of relying on Him. Trusting in Him. Resting in Him. Depending on Him. So, because of this, we should also be able to go forth knowing that whatever it is that we face…we cannot lose. He is in control. We are equipped because we have Him. And, quite frankly, we are equipped because He has us! He will light the path. He will prepare us for what’s ahead. He will remove the obstacles. He will fight our battles. Assuming we are obedient and get out of the way, that is. And this doesn’t mean that we need to do everything on our own, either. It’s definitely appropriate to build with others and delegate as needed; but, that’s not what we’re talking about at the moment.

To be clear, I absolutely acknowledge (and know for myself) that the road is not always “easy”. And while that may be true, I do believe that on the practical side we typically have access to what we need to at least get moving. It may not be exactly what we want or how we want it to look…but, it’s usually right there. It seems as though what is “easy”, however, is the ability to come up with excuses as to why we cannot do a thing. The very thing that is right before us...and that’s tied to the desire(s) that God placed on our heart. Unintentionally (or intentionally), the passion, the pull, and the healthy pressure to accomplish a thing (that, quite frankly, is bigger than us) is put on the back-burner. The idea that the needed resources and relationships are unattainable can often leave someone feeling as though they’ve reached a dead-end. So then, it becomes a lot easier to (un)consciously ignore and/or abandon the very guidance that’s afforded to us through the Holy Spirit and lean more heavily on thoughts rooted in perfectionism. *Enter increased doubt.* The thoughts that maybe you’ve heard God wrong….or didn’t hear Him, at all. Or maybe you convince yourself that there’s no point to get started...or to keep going. Sound familiar? If so, please keep reading for some encouragement!

Simply put: It’s right there. You already have it. It’s not in another late night of research. It’s not in another focus group or brainstorming session. It’s not in a deep dive around the best practices. You’re not going to find it on your favorite influencer’s page. It’s literally right there. You have access to it. There’s no need to keep searching. You just need to tap into what God's already put inside of you. All of the experiences you’ve had, the skillsets that you’ve developed over the years…it’s all going to make sense at the right time. What once seemed like a detour, will now contribute to the collection of data points for what’s needed to be productive. One thing that I’ve come to learn for myself is that God doesn’t waste anything. Certain things make zero sense, in the moment; however, when I look back, I can see how God has made it all work together for the good.

I want to encourage you to spend some time with the One who created the heavens and the earth. The One who created the universe. The One who created you…and knows what’s best for you. The One who knew you before you were in your mother’s womb. The One who knows the plans that He has for you. The One with the roadmap. The One with the strategy. The One with the tactics. The One with the fruit to continue building and refining your character. If you spend time with Him, not only will you be refreshed, replenished and rejuvenated, but you’ll get the direction that you need. The clarity that wasn’t coming will unfold. You’ll begin to see the path that you are to take light up. Just as you hear that we have to be mindful of the company that we keep - “because they may rub off on you” - how much more can we expect that the Lord would rub off on us. That our character would be improved. That our thoughts would be elevated. That our faith would increase. That our creativity would hit a new high. There’s no gag here. The Lord wants you to succeed. He wants all of His children to win. He wants you to move forward with confidence, assurance and guidance. For you to have wise counsel; and to do all that you do with excellence, unto the Father. He wants you to know that you are already equipped!

The way you’re supposed to do it doesn’t have to look like the next person’s approach. You are uniquely positioned to operate differently. To navigate the lay of the land with supernatural insight and boldness. Your objectives should align with His, not theirs. You’re not meant to do it like anybody else. Their roadmap isn’t working for you because that isn’t the roadmap for you. The strategy hasn’t unfolded like theirs because that’s not the strategy for you. Have you sought yours? Or said better and more appropriately, have you asked the Lord for His? The game plan that He has for you? The one that He knows will take you from Point A to Point Z…at the pace He’s outlined for you to go? Have you yielded your plan to His?

Stop searching for it…it’s not the best use of your time. Continue seeking Him. The One who’s with you. The One who will never leave your nor forsake you. The solution is in Him. The answer is in Him.

He. Is. The. Answer.

In addition to the questions noted above, please take some time to reflect on the QOTB and write down your responses, if you can (recommended).

  • What are you trying to accomplish (avoiding accomplishing)?

  • What are 3-5 practical things you can to do in order to make progress?

  • Have you sought the Lord for strategy? For direction? For next steps? If no, why not?

  • How often do you seek the Lord’s presence? What does that look like?

  • When was the last time you discussed this situation with wise counsel? Do you have wise counsel? Are you connected to a fruitful community?

I also encourage you to take some time to read Matthew 6:33 and ask Holy Spirit for fresh revelation.

Remember: You don’t need anybody else’s plan. God has one especially for you!
